1 . Is there a form to fill in?

Yes, when you book your first appointment, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a pre-appointment assessment form. Please print this out, complete it and bring it with you. Please note, a completed assessment form is required before I begin treatment. If you fail to bring a completed assessment form to your first appointment, I will ask you to complete the assessment at the appointment. Regrettably, this will reduce the time I can spend on treatment.

2. Do I need a doctor's prior approval?

Possibly. If you have undergone recent surgery or received medical attention for an injury, we may not be able to work on you without medical confirmation. Certain medical conditions are not appropriate for massage treatment. If in doubt, please contact me to discuss. It is your responsibility to contact your doctor and to advise me of any issues.

3. What do I need to bring with me to my appointment?

Your completed pre-appointment assessment form. Two large towels and a water bottle.

4. Do you have client parking?

Yes. I will contact you prior to your appointment with details of where you can park.

5. I am in pain. What can I do?

Above all, be kind to yourself. Lay off the exercise and be careful. If you have an injury, such as a torn muscle, or if you have fallen, seek medical advice if necessary. Rest and elevate the sore area as much as possible. Ice and heat packs are very beneficial when applied alternately. A compression bandage may be appropriate. Take anti-inflammatories if you are able. These help to reduce inflammation as well as reducing pain.

1. What should I wear to my appointment?

Please wear loose fitting clothing. You will keep your underwear on during the appointment. Please do not wear a sports bra or other cross-back bra as the straps inhibit access to shoulder, back and neck muscles.

2. Is there somewhere private to change?

Yes. My treatment room is private. I will leave the room to allow you to change in private. There is space for you to store your clothes and personal belongings during your treatment.

3. Will the massage hurt?

Deep tissue and sports injury massage can be a little uncomfortable, but I will only use a pressure level suitable to achieve the best results for you. I will check in with you regularly during the treatment.

4. Will we chat during the treatment?

During a deep tissue or sports massage treatment, it is important that we communicate regularly to ensure pressure levels are within a therapeutic range and you are comfortable. With other treatment types, I will be led by you - I am equally happy to chat or to be quiet if you prefer.

5. Can I listen to music during my appointment?

Absolutely! Music can help relax you and contribute to the calming atmosphere of your treatment. I have a bluetooth speaker and a playlist that can be used during your treatment or you can connect your own playlist. I do not recommend the use of ear buds or other headphones during treatment as these can interfere with essential communication during the session. If you would prefer a music free session, please advise me of this when you arrive for your treatment.

6. Will you use massage oils during my treatment?

Usually, yes. Occasionally, during a sports injury or deep tissue massage, I will use these very sparingly as doing so helps to achieve better results. I use oils or massage wax. These are natural products and you can choose from a selection of scents.

7. How will I stay warm during my treatment?

In most cases, your treatment will be carried out on a heated massage table. I will also provide plenty of blankets and can light the wood burner to ensure you stay cozy and comfortable throughout your treatment.

8. I don't feel confident about my body

Please don’t worry. My first priority is to make you feel comfortable, so I use draping techniques to ensure all areas that I am not actively working on are covered throughout your treatment. My focus will always be on how best to apply massage techniques to make you feel better. I will never scrutinize or judge body shape or size.

1. How will I feel after my appointment?

It really depends on the treatment. After a deep tissue or sports massage, you will feel alert and awake and keen to move your soothed muscles. After a relaxing treatment, you will feel calm and possibly a bit sleepy. It can take a moment to adjust to standing up, moving around and facing the rest of your day. I have a seating area where you can take your time to recuperate and rehydrate after your treatment.

2. Will I ache the next day?

Maybe. If we have done deep tissue or work on a specific muscle this can require significant pressure, and therefore might make the area a little tender for a day or two.

3. Will I need another treatment?

Deep tissue and sports issues will probably require more than one treatment and we will discuss this at the time. My hope is to help you achieve good results and I will always be open with you about progress.
